In the water
I found a lfs thats been successful over the years with maintaining blue spotted rays. they also mentioned that are temperature sensitive if they get above 78 water temp then they don't do well. just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this with them. i have never kept them before . but they sure are beautiful rays.

thanks,
jc

There's plenty of success stories out there, they're just fragile and require expert care. The issue as I see it is they're stunning, common and very hard to keep. That's a nasty mix. I've always thought about keeping them; one of my major concerns has always been the ethical issue of supporting that part of the industry.

i have kept a male and female for for aprox, some where, about 4 years now, i find they are very easily stressed , when in wrong enviromen. i have had success with species only tanks, they are currently housed with a stonefish and zebra eel and appear quite content but will be upgrading to a larger tank shortly , 100mm sand bed , lots of varied diet, fed 2 times a day, whitebait , prawns mulies and allso supplement vitamins

I agree with the above about being stressed easy, I think they should be a species only also as with most or maybe all round and small rays unles you have a huge setup. They like to be left alone and not climbed all over and from my observations they are more timid than others even at feeding

what was the water temperature when you had them? i heard they stress if it gets above 78

these rays are found from middle to top end of aus sometimes in water with a depth of less than 20cm the temp can reach 28 cel in summer, my tank sits on 26 27 in summer so 78 is not a issue that i have come across

My blue seems to like 80 and no other tankmates except some snails and two damsel fish that have-not become dinner yet. I agree they are sensitive. And require a lot of work not a species to leave alone for the weekend. Diet is key aswell .I feed two times a day with a mixed diet. One more thing I've noticed with my blue is very light sensitive I don't keep my main light on more than 20mins I use a soft cheap led. Honestly Cortez is the way to go sorry for the long ramble guys
