I recently purchased a Linckia sp. from our lfs. We have an eventual reef tank that has completed/is on the verge of finishing its cycle. Our level of ammonia is between 0 and .2, but I have trouble reading the test kit. We aclimated it using a drip for 4 hours, then let it float for 30 minutes. It did not touch air and was not handled with skin. We were informed that if aclimated properly, they do very well, and if they are going to crash I'd know in 24 hours.
Well, my question is how do I know? It is still bright blue and we put it in Saturday. But, it only moves if I use a pipet to move it. Then it "sinks" and conforms to the rock it is sitting on. The first night it moved its arm to cover a tiny fish pellet i dropped near it, but it hasn't "walked" since. Is this normal behavior?
The 29 tank has 15ish lbs live rock, 30 lbs live sand, 2 hermits, 10 various snails, and lots of calupra. A 150 gallon skimmer and a filter are hooked up. We did a 3 gallon water change saturday. Is there anything else you can think of that might help the star settle in?
