And reptile shows are the best places to get good prices...especially towards the end of the last day, you can talk vendors down A LOT...
But you also need to be very careful, there are no health guarantees at reptile shows and there are plenty of worthless vendors out there flipping whatever comes into their hands....

This. I've had to have an animal euthanized that was bought from a vendor that I later found out was really an animal flipper. The well-known vendors will often give you their card or a number to contact them if you start having signs of illness or parasites with an animal they sold you and offer some kind of guarantee/help/etc. But there's a lot of vendors that will operate under caveat emptor ("buyer beware"), and they're done with you as soon as you hand over the money.

There's still plenty of great deals, vendors and people at the shows... just really have to know what you're buying and who you're dealing with. Small bright side, the regulars and bigger breeders will often tell you who do deal business with and who do avoid because of whatever reason.

Agreed.

That's what I do: I talk to a family friend who breeds snakes and sells them at local shows as well as Hamburg to find out who to buy from and who to avoid; it's worked out great for me thus far. Getting contact information is pretty useful as is checking the BOI on FaunaClassifieds for good/bad reviews of a show's vendors before ever going to the show. Presentation and the attitude of the seller tend to be a somewhat good indicator, too.
