I have a question about where to buy rays. My hubby is looking for some saltwater rays. Does anyone have any idea where I can buy some online? Also has anyone ever kept the blue dot stingray? I think that is what it is called.

saltwater forum sharks and rays would be a better place for this thread you will get alot more answers there.... im sure a mod will move it...

I've see one, once. lol This probably wont help at all but. When I was working at a little local shop in Ca (long ago). The owner was so excited that he got one in the store, but it died after a few days to a week. Honestly I think the water quality might have been the culprit (had suspicions about the competency of the guy that was in charge of the salt section). Never seen or heard of one before or since. But I remember how beautiful it was, and how mad the owner was when it passed. But since I've been trying hard to focus on freshwater only, just disregard what I ramble about and count it as a sighting. lol

There are two types of blue spotted rays. One is round and is called a blue-spotted ribbon tail ray. These have a reputation for not doing well, however I kept two will success in a 300 gallon tank for several months. Death occured during a tank filter failure (everything in the tank died.....I was not happy). I've never kept the blue spotted ray that doesn't have a round body (it's more angular).

Most local aquarium stores should be able to get one for you, as they are not uncommon. They are rarely brought in by stores without a special request due to the difficulty in keeping them alive in the small systems usually available to stores.

Feel free to call me if you have any other questions.
