My friend and I have a pond that's about 500-600 gallons. Is it possible to for us to get bluegill to spawn in there? We're in Florida so the water temp shouldn't ever really be a problem, but what else will we need to do? The pond is well established, we have some local minnows living in there now to keep the skeeters down and we get plenty of frogs and tadpoles. we might also try to get a bass for it, i know...we'll need a lot more minnows for that. I already have two bluegill in my tank that are going to be moving to the pond, we plan on getting a few more, maybe five or so.

Just need to know if anyone has had any luck with the bluegill.

You should have no problem as long as you have a male and a female. My green sunfish started building nests in my 240 for a while but he didn't have a female to breed with but was more then ready to do so. Good luck!

Thanks, I figured it would be kind of simple in a big enough tank/pond. 500 gallons should be big enough right?
We can always do more digging as it gets a bit cooler out.

west coast. Sarasota. We got our current fish out of the myakka river. we may try a different river for the next few fish, just to see if we find any better looking fish.
