I just went fishing and got two 3" sunfish that I just acclimated into my 30gallon with a 4" carpinte, a 4" male convict, 2x 4-5" plecos, and a 4" raphael catrfish. I did not treat them for parasites and I keep the tank they are in at 76-78* which is really high for bluegill and sunfish. Any info you have for me? All the info I have found says "blah blah blah they're to mean to keep with other fish" but nothing about cichlids and so far the convict and the carpinte have been nipping they're fins but I'm not worried. Also wondering if they can hybridize with other cichlids, haven't seen it done but seems very possible. Especially with the carpinte since I know they live in the same waters in a lot of places.

IME, cichlids do not mix well with bluegill/sunny. Cichlids really don't like natives in general. There param requirements are entirely different anyway, so mixing them is a bad idea. A few years ago I tried it, can't even remember how many bluegill were killed-no cichlid fatalities though.

Bluegill live fine in 76-80* water in lakes and rivers of summertime Florida. maybe they're different in Southern Poland.

actually he's not dead yet.. I'm wondering if I should just go chuck him into the river behind my house.. Hes been laying on his side so I hurried up and got him in a colder water bucket with a bubbler.

yeah, I'd probably put him in the river. unless you have an extra aquarium you could use for natives. I kept a couple bluegill in my mom's goldfish pond for over a year, one of them eventually died. I think the other one is still in there, though.

When I feel he's a little better I am going to acclimate him into my goldfish tank that I have to re-set up.. When I went to move the other sunfish to the goldfish tank it was half drained and I had water all over. I have no idea how it broke, its been fine for 2+ months and now its broke. Luckily I have about 5 spare tanks lying around, the goldfish will be much happier in a 30gallon anyways..

son of a ..... I just went to check on them, and the one decided to jump out of the 1/2" gap I accidentally left on the top of the tank. This is the first fish I've ever lost to a jump. My 13" midas jumped one night but it woke me up so I saved him. So now I've got 1 healthy one, and 1 slime coated to my basement floor.
