is their growth known to be slow, i've had one for a couple of months and growthrate seems to be non exsistant compared to my normal bgk. is this a case of poor genes as with albino bichirs or do i have a stunted individual?
i watch him eat atleast once a day and he gets a 30% weekly waterchange

cheers,
Jordan

the knife is 3.5''atm and in a 33 gal tank with 2 tire track eels @5'', 2.5'' leopard ctenopoma and a 2.5'' l191. as for his diet he is eating chopped smelt, various fish fillets, shrimp, bloodworms and red wigglers

It could be genetics. BGK don't really grow that fast at all comparatively speaking...what's your water parameters? You could probably bump up the water change to 50% a week.

0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 0-5 nitrate. ph is around 7.2 i don't think that it is a waterquality or over crowding issue. comparatively speaking my l191 with are notoriously slow growers seems to have put on more growth in less time than the white bgk

Seems like everything is going good. It's a possibility that it's not competing for enough food during feeding time? Maybe add another feeding.

We have a couple left at our wholesaler at work, and they all grew maybe 1/2" in a couple of months in a 40 breeder. I would say it's not much slower than regular black ghost knives. My blushing ghost knife on the other hand hasn't grown AT ALL.

I think these guys are just slow growers. I think a lot of captive strains of fish, don't get as big as the wild specimens as well.

these observations are close to mine, about a half inch in 2 months(being generous), whereas my normal bkg was putting on 1/2''-3/4'' a month at that size
