So this morning I was wondering what type of Bristlenose I have in my tank, I'm considering getting a "partner" for my BN and was just thinking it would be easier if I knew what it is :D

I think Ancistrus sp 3, but I'm not entirely sure if that is just one species or not as on planetcatfish there are a variety under that name, presumably morphs? Anyways, thanks in advance,

Tom.

Edit: I am also unsure of sex, if anyone can positively sex him/her from these pictures that would be awesome. Cheers.

Think it is probably a female Ancistrus sp. '3'. How big is it. The first pic made me think it could possibly be A. claro, but with the mouth shot, I think that one could be ruled out. It can be sometimes harder to tell when they are younger. It will be more definate when you know it's an adult. Looks like a female.

Thanks Davo she is about 2/3 inches long so not very big. Thanks for the quick response, when you see her sort of straight on her head looks pretty massive, she just didn't look quite like some of the bn pics I was looking at. I'll take some more pics as she grows.

L089??

Snap a picture with something in the shot to show the size of her, like an intake tube, or clay pot.

If you mean two thirds of an inch, I'd wait quite a bit longer to determine sex.:)

lol nope I just looked I would say 3 inches :P

Lol some great guestimate work going on here...
Even so this is a species where the males develop their bristles rather early on, and would say this is a female.

Yeah idk it's hard to say what length she is, she always sits on the back of the tank eating away at the algae. She has tripled in size in the 6-7 weeks that I have had her. She is prolly my fave fish too.

Oh yeah and I'll work on taking a size comparison pic tomorrow. I will try lol.
