I'm wanting something to keep the algae off the back of the tank and rocks (or atleast keep it down).

So what's your vote, single BN plec or 3/4 otos? Last time I had a BN it was a poop machine.. but in fairness it was forever grazing on the driftwood/mangrove roots, which there is none in this tank.

No issues with tank mates for either for now. Just want your opinions on which is most effective and less likely to produce lots of unsightly poop.

Thanks :)

I can not add input directly to affect your decision since I have not had ottos long enough to be able to confidently talk about them and the time I had my bn plecos was so long ago that I can not remember if they did anything for algae
However, I would like to point out the fact that ottos aren’t that hardy and they may die repeatedly before you get some to live.

Well chaps I picked up 4 otos today - we'll see how they get on. Even if just 1 or 2 make it; I'd be happy. One has already made good progress on the back wall, the other 3 are still figuring it all out.

If you want to keep them after they’ve finished all the algae (if they survive) then I would put a couple rocks, river rocks maybe, in a mason jar with some tank water in front of a window that gets sunlight so the algae can grow on them.
