I today I picked up 'a pair' of bristlenoses' one is about 5" and 100% male and the other is about 2" and only has a few small bristle's around its snout, is this likely to be a female?

it might be or it could be a young male

Ive recently been researching this after picking up a few bn

The general rule I have heard is females can have bristles round there lip but never up the nose
So after 3-4" if the bridge of the nose is bristle free then female
My female who is about 5" has quite big bristles on her lip

Nice male by the way! Mine are still a bit immature. Can't wait until they grow a bit and bristle up more

Thanks! Set me back £15 for the 2 of them but well worth it :)

I used to have a breeding pair in a snakehead tank years ago
Ferry few fry survived but they are a great little cleaner
Make sure they have a small cave just big enough for the 2 of them to get in and a small opening one end and you should get a spawn most months
After they lay the male will sit fanning the eggs and not leave the cave entrance so if you don't see him a few days you prob have babies
