I have 2 idea's for the pond i am building in my back yard. My dad has two old boats out back one of them is about 16 feet long, i was thinking about taking one of them and completly stripping it out on the inside and making that into a pond. I would bury the boat far enough in the ground so it would look like its sitting in water. Then plug the boat and fill it up with water getting a pump and filter for it also of course but i don't think i would be able to run a waterfall with it or have a place where the water runs through rocks is that necessary or does it just help? i would have everything hidden under the water the pump hose and the return hose do you guys think this is a good idea? the other idea i had was to build a wooden octagon frame out of some kind of wood then digging it out about a foot to two feet below ground and having the frame about two feet above ground then putting a pond liner in it and adding a filter pump and waterfall. Which idea do you guys think would be more cost effective i would want either just koi in it or maybe largemouth bass with bluegill.

i would like the boat to but idk how deep it would be. i want it to be as big as possible but the boat has limited space it would be different but idk how much water its going to hold.

The wooden octagon pond that i was thinking about doing would be about 8 foot in diameter and anywhere from 2 1/2 to 3 foot deep. This would deff be large enough for what i want but idk how much water this is gunna be so i have no clue how large of a pump and filter i should have are there any good one's that are one piece like the pump filter and waterfall all in one?

that would be a good idea but the boat would be bigger then the pond would be, the pond would only be 8 feet in diameter if i made the wooden one and the boat is atleast 16 feet long.

go with the boat make it look likes its sunk in the ground

It would look cool if it was in the ground a good bit and make it look like a dried up lake bed that the water in the boat still had fish and plants in.

That was my original plan, dig a hole and put the boat in just enough so that its sitting at about where it would be sitting if it was in water, still having the steering wheel and windshield and a few other things like the dash in the boat. So it looks like it was in water. I was also thinking about using the existing hole's in the transum where the motor goes for the inlet of the filter and the return that way its all hidden I have a plastic box with a top opening lid "where we keep our pool supplie's" i was going to bury behind the boat where the motor would go to hold the filter and pump and just cut hole's in the back of it that way you can't see anything but the boat and the box. But i wouldn't be able to have any kind of water fall or anything is that necessary? If i get a good filter and pump. I don't know if the hollowed out boat is going to hold THAT much water though.
