Do Bocourti normally grow slow? My 2 don't seem to eat as much as the other fish and are not growing much at all. Most all the other fish I got 3 months ago (see signature) have at least doubled in size some even 4-5 times what they were.

I got 4 Boucourti about 2 months ago at 1inch. When I had them in my 55 at work, I fed them about 2x's a day with water changes and it seemed that they didnt grow or change at all. Then about a month ago, I brought them home, threw them with my convicts in the 75 gallon and didnt pay any attention to them for a month. Currently, it seems that they have grown about an inch and they are starting to color up.

From my experience so far, mine are growing slow too.

Maybe I should try a different brand of flake. I notice that they are fussy and sometimes will grab pieces and just spit it out.

yeah def should be using pellets not flakes, flakes are a lot messier and usually not as nutritous, should also try supplementing their diet with other things like frozen foods and insects, it could also be that they aren't as aggressive of eaters as the others and so arent getting as much food, iv noticed in my tanks when i have multiples of the same type or similar cichlids then 1-2 become dominant and grow way faster than the other ones who seem to barely grow at all (though i have no personal experience with bocourti)

definately use a pellet, myself i use hbh (vegtable base)and hikari and maybe 2-3 days a week i throw in 1-2 leafs of romain lettuce. put keep in mind this may increase need for wc.
