i am going to buy a new piece of bog wood soon, i was talking to the guy in the LFS and he said some pieces dont ever stop leeching, is this true? i have got other pieces of bog wood which i soak for about a month before putting in my tank, any suggestions on how long i should soak it for, to change water or not? i was thinking 2-3 months maybe even longer because i am going to redo my whole tank on a week end some time around april/may and change to sand new rocks and all that etc.

any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.

thanks
howard.

I soak mine for about a week an change the water as often as i remember everyday with hot water. Some people boil them. But some do alway's leach i think .

ok thanks for the reply, i hope it dont leech for ever..

you're just begging for bruce to come post in this thread! BTW, mine took about 4 months to stop leeching tannins

They won't leach forever, but each piece is different. I would boil it and that will shorten the leach time.

BTW...i had a bit of Bogwood last year which leached tannins for like...4 months...even with all the water changes and everything...would'nt stop...so i chucked it into my pond and haven't seen it since...
