Just a question! I would like to add some wood to my tank but not big bits that take up the floor space, so i was thinking of some old branches that have on the ground and weathered for years in the woods. There is two that are nice oak and chestnut, is it safe to use?

Thanks for looking.

I think oak is fine but I would soak it for ages first. Fill a big barrel and test the ph then add the oak and test it every week to see if it is altering the ph. I would try to pressure wash it and then pour boiling water over. I would also get some chlorine from a pool shop and use that to disinfect.

You may be able to research if yacht varnish is safe for fish and seal the wood that way...not sure though.
