Hello, I just bought some wood I got from the store for my fish tank and I know you must boil it to get rid of the oils and dirt in the wood and also so your water won't turn brown. I boiled it once and it got ride of a lot of junk in it but my question is would it be a bad Idea to boil it agian?

People say if you boil the wood it makes the wood fibers breakdown more easily meaning the wood may start falling apart slightly quicker than if it was just soaked in say tank temp...

So if you are actually boiling it on the stove i would probably advise against doing it a second time... Instead, maybe just get a large tub / container and fill it with hot water from the tap and let the wood soak in that for a day or two and change water accordingly...

But if the tannins dont bother you, you could place it directly in your tank after the first cleaning process...

Thank you very much. I boiled it once but it wasn't really a boil it was more of just heating up the water With the wood in it and I did that for 1 1/2 hours so I think I'll just soak it for the rest of the time.

^ well not every one likes tannins... i admit i don't mind a LITTLE bit... but if it looks like coffee then its a no go for me...

I think a little bit of tanins looks pretty cool, but yours was nasty brown for a while. Have you put the wood in yet?

I boiled my huge piece of Malaysian driftwood and now i have it sitting in a cooler....and to my surprise, even after the long boil the water in the cooler is super yellowish brown! I would just let it soak for about a month.
