bonding live rock

Not too Sure on the Superglue, but check out your lfs for rock bonding compounds. I can't recall the name or manuf. of the stuff, but it's basically like a epoxy clay compound that is used for bonding live rock and landscape rock together in a tank. Just DON'T go to a Hardware and buy epoxy. I purchased this rock compound at my lfs and it works great. I think I paid $4 or $5 dollars for it and it was enough to do 120lbs of rock. You don't need too much on a rock and you can't even notice it on the rocks, it blends in great.

I tried using that epoxy on my rocks in my frontosa tank. I had bad luck with it and my tank smells like sulfur. My buddy used Gorilla Glue with good luck.

if you want an alternative to using glue or epoxy you can drill the rock and install rods into it and connect pieces that way - its good cause you can pull them apart without having to break them apart - ive never done it but the next reef setup i do iam considering doing it

i just free stack my rock now and it has never fallen (nor in the past) but connecting the rock gives you more options in terms of looks and flow

I'm not fimalure with this method but I am interested in learning more about it. What are these rods? Where can they be bought? Do you use a masonery bit?

Thanks...Joel

Howdy,

Let me revive this thread. I am facing the same problem with rocks in a chiclid tank. They need to mount up tall but not fall down and smash my glass. Any new experiences with rock glues (e.g. Holdfast or Aquastik)? So far, it's 2:1 for good experiences... Not enough to get me convinced it's great .. but possibly enough to encourage me to play guinea pig...

Thanks,
HarleyK

I would also like to see some techniques on this as well....I have to fronts and some other africans that I want to stack some rocks on the back of my 125. I'm scared that they will fall and break the glass. I've thought about styrofoam but I like real rocks better.

I would like to hear more too want to stack rocks higher in my african tank,What kind of rods?like stailess steel bolts maybe
