I have a myrnae/convict hybrid that has what looks like a bone or a gill raker poking through its gill plate.
It has been like this for a while and the fish can still eat, but its mouth is agape all the time.

I thought that it would either work its way out or just fall off with time but it seems it will not do this.
Do I take the fish out and try to either clip it off from the outside or from inside the gill plate, or just leave it as is and see what happens?
The fish is small (2") so there is not much room to work with if I operate....
