This may sound a little corny, but I was thinking of using an animal skull as a centerpiece for my bichir tank. I have seen that you can get several different african species online and thought maybe a wart hog skull would look interesting. My main question, is there any danger in this? Would the bones break down too rapidly? I know its corny, but I just thought it might be something different.

If you have softer water the bones will break down rapidly. In harder alkaline water the bones will last longer

Our tap water runs close to a ph of 8, I guess I need to test the actual hardness. How fast do you mean when you say fast?

You could seal it with an epoxy or a laquer. That would help keep it from deteriorating.

Cool, thanks for the help. What kind of epoxy would I need to use?

I just threw in some deer antlers in my new 55 gal tank we'll see
would this put too much calcium in the water and wouldn't it drive up the ph?
they use the stuff fight heart burn
