I have to agree with Alprazo, and will also add a few things. On top of the issues of dealing with unscrupulous shark and ray dealers, I feel it can be disservice to sell sharks on the market place instead of the more focused salt water shark and ray threads. I feel that because I could not even count the amount of times someone has tried to buy a shark and that he or she was not prepared to own or properly care for, and was redirected to buying a different species of shark by the more experienced members on the forum. Where if that person was making those same attempts to buy a shark in the market place they would not have the vetting process that goes on now. A strict enforcement of this policy will increase the amount of times someone kills sharks jamming them into enclosures that are too small and/or inadequately filtered.

I do not believe that this policy is so stringent it could not be altered for the greater good of the members on forum and the animals they keep, thank you in advance for any consideration that the moderators may have regarding this topic.

Well said Jay!

There's a saltwater marketplace now, so there's no need for posting "For Sale" threads in this area. The mods will continue to close threads like this because there are sections specifically dedicated for selling saltwater fishes such as sharks.

It's the buyer's responsibility to properly educate & prepare themselves for their prospective purchases as well as ensure that they're dealing with a legitimate seller (although the mods do a pretty good job of picking up on the crooks). It's pretty well known who the legitimate sellers are (turbo253, etc.). Besides, anyone purchasing anything online needs to be absolutely sure that they're purchasing from a legitimate seller and must take the appropriate precautions.

Wow Ryan. Is it really to each their on here. Buy a shark and deal with the consequences, that is if you dont get ripped off by a scam. If so, I guess the advice of Matt, Matt, jay, ken, josh, Greg, others and I are pointless. All so that posts end up on the new marine marketplace forum?
On that note, close this thread like my last, really for no reason, and boot me. This makes the majority of my posts, offering advice, meaningless anyway. So I guess goodbye.

The mods will say the exact same thing in regards to where to post shark-related "For Sale" threads. Why else would they have closed the other threads? If "For Sale" threads get posted in non-Marketplace sections, then the mods close them. Do we get anywhere by posting these threads in the wrong section only to have them closed? I do not see them making an exception to these rules any time soon even though it would make sense to have a shark & ray-specific "For Sale" section or something along those lines.

In the end, it does not matter where shark-related "For Sale" ads are posted as scammers will continue to post their scams wherever they think they can get away with them and people who shouldn't buy sharks will still buy them even if given sound advice.

I'm not trying to come across as disrespectful or anything like that rather I'm just trying to point out what I've noticed in my time on here. Feel free to PM me in regards to this matter.

I'll toss this in....

If you ever have questions about a specific supplier or shark, feel free to post. We're all here to talk sharks all day long... some longer than others (even though our resident long winded *cough* female *cough* member is without internet right now - which is why I'm taking a chance to poke fun when she can't fight back).
That being said, as MFK grows, the general idea is to use the market place sections to keep specific for sale type threads in them. The reason other threads are being closed is because it's against the TOS/rules to start a thread talking about one that is closed already. We aren't doing infractions and all that.... just trying to stream line a bit and keep things in alignment with the WHOLE website, and not have section by section 'rules' to follow.

Hope that helps and everyone understands. Feel free to PM me or bug me in anyway with ideas/comments/ways to make MFK work best for the members. Not on as much as I used to be, but still here to help. I have to say this is one of the best shark subforums on the web today - and I'm proud to know you guys and get to interact with so many hard core shark fans.
