my bonsai-parrot can't keep itself upright, it sort of looks like it's belly wants to float and it keeps flipping over and over.

it eats good, looks good and chases the other fish, so i think it's healthy.

i've had it for about a year and it's the size of a peach. i didn't change anything with its tank or food and it just started doing this in the last 3 - 4 days...

what could be causing this?

it could be the fact that it's a bonsai. they often have health problems, especially in this area. i personally think this technique is cruel, you are altering a fish simply so it looks better to you. how would you like it if someone cut off your legs just because they thought you looked better without them?

hey, thanks for the help .

having my legs cut off would suck, but i guess i would have to deal with it if i had no choice in the matter. but that's a horrible analogy anyway because i never cut anything off of my fish...

since you're so moral, i assume you have never eaten meat or swatted a fly because you put yourself in every animals situation every time, right? what about medicine tested on lab animals or cosmetics or leather, ever use any of that stuff??? thanks for sharing your illogical hypocritical morality, but i wasn't interested.

did you know that if you just wanted to rant, you could have started your own thread instead of hijacking mine?

It sounds like a swim bladder issue or constipation. Try fasting for a day, and then only feed shelled peas for a few days. Google for more info, I've never treated it myself but have heard things recommended for it.

thanks jess! i started the fasting yesterday and i'll give it peas tomorrow.

it doesn't look constipated or swollen so i'm not sure if this is the problem, but it's worth a try and it's the only thing i think i can do right now...

thanks again, i'll keep you posted!

the peas should work, if you can get him to take them. If not try mushing the peas into a paste and dropping it in. Ive done it with my parrots in the past. However, it will take sometime...give or take a week or so.

it won't even look at the peas :irked:, looks like another day of fasting...
everyone else in there ate them though.

thanks everyone for the help so far :).

anything else i can try, spinach or something?

can try a piece of zucchini, cut it thin so they can bite it...float it with a suction cup on the side. Leave it for a few days. mine devour the entire piece. Will get him some kind of roughage.
