After 10 years of Discus keeping I needed a change. Having done a reef tank unsuccessfully in the past has left me with just about everything I needed for my 90g reef project. This time I wanted a sump, bulkheads and, everything clean and hidden. After a bit of research I figured i could drill my own tank, which I easily did thanks to a drill guide. The 90g sits on my bar (I don't drink much anyways) and drilled the bar to route my water and electrical lines. My 18g sump fit like a glove taking up most of 1 cabinet, all the electrical is housed in the other.

The sump is a diy. Seperated into 3 parts with live rock, refugium and, pump/skimmer/heater area. Actually, already planning a second sump seeing as how most good skimmers have a large footprint. Being that the tank sits on a bar, there is plumbing already underneath so the overflow goes right down the drain! I can sleep soundly knowing there will be no accidents!

So, I drilled both tanks, installed bulkheads and ran the electrical so its hidden. Since I had mh and t5 lighting already, I built my own canopy. Then stained and sealed it. Everything on timers. The only bear so far has been purchasing live rock which is really expensive. $5 to $8/lb.! What little rock you can see is about $300 worth! Once my levels have calmed down I'll add a fish or two and eventually corals. And I'll update when I can. Cheers!
