Some time ago, I had a post on leopard gecko eye infections. So I went off to a nearby shop and found a brand of eye drops with some ridiculous name. I wanted to see if you guys had any opinions about the eye drops. Originally it was working fine, helping to reduce the layers of eye infection and making the gecko slough pieces of the bacteria daily. Recently, this effect has stopped. What could have possibly happened?

Contents:
Boric acid-0.8g
Sodium Borate-0.09g
Polisorbatol- 2ml
Distilled Water C.S.P-100ml

A few drops in to cleanse, and I leave one drop in the eye before putting the gecko back. Saline is used before the eye drops are applied.

After reading the title I was freaking out wondering how you managed to get concentrated acid into the eye of your gecko... but now I see its diluted...

It might have just loosened the initial layers of dried infection without really combating anything and reached the end of usefulness in that area. You should see if you can get a hold of some aminoglycocidal ophthalmic drops like gentamicin. The problem is that this is an antibiotic and for some annoying reason antibiotics are a controlled substance so you need to get it through a vet.

Eye drops aren't going to do a thing, except moisten the Eye. You need Anti-Biotics. Terramycin should work if you can find it........

I see thanks for your help. I did my research and apparently boric acid and sodium borate have antiviral and anti-fungal properties, and unfortunately not anti-bacterial. Opinions? And thanks for the advice. If the thing still doesn't work out by this week, I will get to the vet.
