boring and lazy ebjd

HELP PLEASE!!!I got a nickle sized ebjd about a year ago. Now its about the size of an open hand. Up till about two months ago it was always swimming aroun the tank and would come up to the glass when we did. Now it just sits on the rocks and slams around tank at the littlest noise. plz help.

you've got an EBJD, Blue Acara, Black Ghots and Bichir, all in a 45G? it sounds like a pretty tight situation, but I've never tried to keep all those at once

I suppose the obvious questionis, what - - if anything - - has changed in the last two months?

Test your water quality. Make sure there's no ammonia 7 nitrites and that you've got low nitrates.

My guess is either water quality or stress. These fish need more room!

What size tank is it in?

Water Parameters?

Tankmates?

What type of food do you feed it?

How has his behavior changed?

My experience with EB's is, if you don't act quickly, you WILL lose them. Give us some more info and I'm sure we'll get him back to his old self.

thanks for the help. i got rid of the blue acara. also did a substrate cleaning, and got the tank shiney again. Ammonia was a lil high, and ph was a lil low. also got rid of a feature that was taking up room. So noe=w i have a 45g bow front with 3 6-7 inch fish. they all get along and seem very happy. Thanks again.

Im not a big JD or EBJD fan, but that is one good looking specimen.

What was the ammonia reading? In a cycled tank you should have 0 Ammonia. Do you have any idea what could have caused you to lose your cycle or give you an ammonia spike? That is likely the source of the stress. I would do daily water changes and add Prime to the tank until your ammonia reading is at 0. Check and make sure you don't have nitrites either.
