So the title is a bit harsh but I’ve had a fahaka I’ve raised from about 2 inches to 8 inches over a couple years. He isn’t very active and lays on the sand mostly. Shows only slight interest in me rarely and often acts afraid of me or other things outside the tank. Driftwood and sand in the tank, tried plants didn’t work out because of sunlight creating lot of algae from southern sliding door directly adjacent. Temp is 82f tank is 90g FX6. 50% water changes or greater once per week. I understand a 120 and up is what they need and can do that for him however he’s been this way since he was small. Is this the way Fahakas are or what could be going on? Could it improve with time and growth ? I ended up adding a RTS and SAE to cleanup and add some interest for him and he occasionally has tried to get them but not much. They’ve been in there about a year. I feed him NLS pellets, market shrimp, fiddler crabs and just tried snow crab legs which he didn’t go for. Also tried clams on the half shell but he just eats the meat. His feeding response is generally not that high. Not an aggressive eater like I thought. Many times just lets the food hit the bottom with little reaction. The pellets sometimes make more of a response. He’s beautiful just not at all interactive and a bit scared.

Are you sure you dont have too much flow in the top part of the tank thats making him want to stay at the bottom?
I actually had a wavemaker for a few months to see if it would help his behavior however it’s been gone a long time. At the moment the fx6 outflow points straight down so there’s little to no horizontal flow.

My old fahaka also sat on the sand but as soon as it saw someone walk by, it would start glass surfing and was very interactive and food motivated. Also, it was literally afraid of no one and nothing..and would inspect anything that went into the tank.

Something must be bothering it in that tank. Have you dewormed it…they sulk a lot when sick. Or perhaps check for stray voltage from an old powerhead or heater

Dang that’s really what I expected and want hopefully there’s a solution

How’s the surface cover? Most fish like some sort of floating plant to block out light and make them feel hidden.

I´m not sure what you expect puffers do for a living in a very confined space?
Other than search for food, I followed this one for about at acre.
Duane, i want to live where you live and hang out with you, stalking puffers.

Cool video. Do you know the species? Is it fresh or marine? Looks a lot like a small Porcupinefish?
