Hey folks,

I'm borrowing a PAR meter from my local club to do some of my own testing/confirmation according to the charts that we have all over the web. Wanted to see if you guys wanted me to test certain light fixtures at different heights for your own info. Here's the fixtures I have laying around at home that I could test:
1. Catalina Aqurium 36" 4x bulb T5HO with non-name 6500k bulbs and Catalina's 10,000k bulbs

2. Current/Nova Extreme 48" 2x bulb T5HO cheapy light with crappy reflectors w/ actinic, 18,000k Powerglo, 10,000k and 6500k non-name bulbs

3. Hampton Bay 27w 6500k CFL desk lamp fixture

4. Cheapy Lowes 48" 2x bulb T8 fixture (black metal) with two GE 6500K Daylight bulbs

5. Picotope 9w CFL fixture from THIS tank w/ 50/50 and 10,000k bulbs
Let me know what you'd like to see and at what heights :)

im curious on the catalina. thats what i use.
Cool, any number of bulbs you'd like to see tested, and at what heights?

I'm interested in readings from numbers 3, 4, and 5. Heights of 8", 10", 12" for the picotope and hampton fixture, and heights of 12", 16", 18" and 20" for the 2 bulb T8 would be cool.

Will do. We've got a club meeting tonight so I may be able to get the meter today...

Ok got the meter today and did some quick playing around with it. Very surprising actually. Dropped the sensor to the bottom of the tank and I'm only running about 50 total micromols of PAR using two T5HO bulbs. This is considered low-medium lighting according to the charts.

And again, here's my tank as it stands. So I ask you guys, is high lighting really a myth?? :)

Just found this thread. Hope you still have or can still get the PAR meter. Im very intrested to see the difference in PAR between a single actinic lamp and a single 10000k lamp or 6500k lamp since you have all three on hand it should be easy to test. Im curious to see the value in PAR of actinics (if any) according to spectral charts (of photsynthesis; which is what PAR is based on) it should have decent par rating but im curious as to actual values im comparison to a "full spectrum" bulb

Im more intrested in a comparison between them so at whatever distance you feel accpetable would be great.

maybe even a par value on that power glo too. All separately of course if possible.

Yup still got it, haven't really done any testing yet. And I believe I have all those bulbs, I"ll double check again.

I'd like to see a comparison of same length T8 and T5HO tubes. Say, with similar reflectors or with no reflectors, PAR readings from 48" tubes at 12", 18", 20" and 24", so we can extrapolate an idea of watt for watt, the difference in the amount of light being produced.
