Both filters stopped working

Both of the filters on my 75 gallon tank have stopped working, I have an AquaClear 55/75 that's stopped working before, but after cleaning the impeller, it started working again, and a brand new AquaClear 110 that has never stopped working before. The pumps on the filters are warm. What do you think caused them both to stop working? The light and the air pump are working fine off of the same outlet and extension cord.

I took out the pump from the AquaClear and removed the impeller and then put the impeller back in, and the pump is working now. Hopefully doing the same thing works for the Aqueon.

I'll pass on the suggestion that a member offered to me when I had that problem with my 110...pull up the intake assembly,get a long sticklike object and give the impeller a few pokes.I did that and it started right up.

One grain of sand can stop an impeller.
Beside cleaning the impeller it is often needed to brush out the volute (the chamber the impeller rides in) thoroughly.

Yes,I gave one of my smaller filters a good cleaning earlier today.....cleaned out that volute area as well as the impeller itself really well with a bristle brush and the difference in return flow is noticable.

I have a chop stick in my fish supplies for just this reason. All my hang on back filters are AC's, very handy to have. I just got to remind myself next water change for that tank to clean that filter.

The filter that I cleaned is one of the Marinelands and boy is that bio wheel really spinning now lol.

What do you think caused them both to stop working?

A lot of those kinds of motors, especially if they're pretty gummed up, can fail to restart after a power outage. If there was a power blip it's possible both failed to restart.
