i have and unless ur planning on doing something creative with them, there is no real point of mixing the 2. some planted setups use a method that incorporates the 2 in a way that creates a better hard scape and adds depth of view. if u do a search im sure u will find more on it.
I did it, 80% sand, some gravel, and a lot of river rocks. Looked great. Then I did it with black sand, hated it. It was neat to see the fish move all of the sand away from a river rock to lay eggs on it.
i did that when i had fire belly toads before... i had PFS in the water section and gradually becomes gravel on the dry portion of the tank. looked really nice too.
I like n have both in tanks n can't decide so I thinking both. I think some awesome combos with colors could be made!or even just different shades of same color would look sweet too. I thinking if the sand ratio of about 75% with a 25% gravel will work perfect. As to still being able to clean like sand just skimming the top.I'm sure a good quick skim then a lil stir n a quick skim will fine at water changes. Something about the two together sounds very appealing to me! Best of both worlds.
Jcard that's one $WEET tank!!! Personally I like longer tanks with more plants n dark sub, but your tank is awesome!!! You just convinced me I'm mixing ALL my tanks!!! Well except my oscar n fry tanks. Nice tank!! anyone with dark sub??
Hey jcard it clean like sand? Maybe stir lil more than just sand? What have you found works the best?? Most still stays on top huh. Being sand fills the cracks around the gravel.
