I picked up both a suttoni & cochilodon today. Right now the eye is much more blue on the smaller suttonorum than the larger cochiloderm.

Jealous? Why yes. Yes I am! I couldn't afford them, that's for sure. :)

How did you find a smaller a blue eye? I would love to start off with a smaller one of them. Tell me Your secrets! Nice looking plecos! Great pick up ;)

More than I like to think about. At least the ending of the ban is making them more available and a little cheaper. I hope next year availability increases further (LDA105 etc) and prices drop further.

They're great looking fish and I've found similar with the prices, starting to get more reasonable now. I think you have the ID the wrong way round, the smaller one is Panaque cochliodon and the larger is Panaque suttonorum.

Thanks Matubula. I'm new to blue eyes and there is a lot of conflicting information out there this agrees with you:

Let say I name these so-called "P. suttonorum" as BES and a true P. cochliodon as BEC.

Fm a layman point of view and with some photos comparison, here are a few of my observations

BES
grey in color
high head profile - looks alittle like LDA65
large tail proportion as compared to BEC
even a young fish has distinctive rows of spikes by the side

The so called "Panaque suttonorum"
**Image no longer in place**

BEC
typically darker to jet black in color
lower head profile
do not exhibit row of spikes by the side
a much smaller fish

I hope I didn't confuse anyone.
