In my 500 gallon tank I have two 30 inch pacu's. Today I noticed that on both fish their bottom lip was swollen and like sticking out? Very strange. I did do a watch change yesterday and all levels seem correct. They did destroy one of my air stones recently.

Are they just low on oxygen? I have never seen anything like this.

thanks.

post up pics... is it possible they ran into the glass playing... and hit their mouth.. does it look like an injury or more like a infection ? Are they still eating and acting okay otherwise...?

Hard to get a pic with the reflection. It doesn't look like an injury. They are eating and acting fine otherwise. Breathing a bit heavy but now I got the air stones they destroyed back in operation.

well thats good to hear.. i would just keep the water pristene condition and a sharp eye to make sure theres no fungus infection or anything else noticable happening on the lip .. make sure it is not getting any worse.. if the sore lip looks worse let us know because then you will need to add meds or Aqarium salt..

They have seem to have gotten better in the last few days. But now they chewed through the new harder air line I installed again.

Hope they did not eat any of it... these guys are a handful... always in trouble...lol... but worth it... and glad their lips are better:D

ha ha, nah, they just bite the lines and make a hole it in .
give them some small raw carrots bites to chew on... and they don't mess up the water for a long time if they go uneaten... but i doubt that.
