I am planning to introduce 3 of these little guys to my tank & I was wondering... How sensitive are they to salt?

Are you treating the tank with salt?

If not, then don't use salt and keep other fish that require increased salinity in another tank.

I dont know whether you would say I'm "treating" with salt. I usually put a teaspoon in for each 25% WC (5 gallons). Do the loaches like the salt to be zero? The tank currently houses 2 large opaline gouramies, 2 mollies & a rubbernose pleco, so I dont think I really need the salt. I was just told it helps a little. What do you think?

There is no need to add salt.

So do I need to work the salt out over the next few WC's...or is it ok now? Probly better to just do the WC's huh?

Just do water changes and forget the salt.

The people at Petsmart and Petco love to add aquarium salt to the sale. Forget that crap unless you need to treat with salt for a reason.

I didnt buy salt because the hottie at Petsmart told me to. Give me a little credit, at least! My gouramies, mollies & Barbs all enjoy the salt. My Pictus cats never cared either way. I have never put more than 1 teaspoon per 5G until I had to treat Ick a few weeks back. I only did that because everything I read said that was the thing to do. Anyhow, I'll do a few WC's with no salt next week, then give the tank an extra week to settle before I put them in. Thanks so much!

Salt does indeed treat for ich but as a way to "condition" fish or "prevent" disease, this is totally unnecessary hence our call not to add salt.
