cichlid sand if you have the money I like it, and for the cheap black diamond sand blasting sand never tried it was told that if will scratch the heck out of your glass (don't know how true or untrue this is)
 
I have both crushed coral @$30 per 50lb bag and playground sand @$2.97/bag. I'll say the crushed coral is very white and looks good. Playground sand is good, but seriously consider pre-rinsing it very good before putting it in your tank, as it will be really cloudy for a while, and every time you re-arrange anything.

if you can find ceramaquartz or spectraquartz, both should be great. I have colorquartz (discontinued) and it's a great substrate and I only paid 23$ for 50lbs.
I went with the smallest grain.
 
Sorry I didn't see the black part. I just emptied my 125 which had black sand, it was Carib Sea's supernaturals black sand, I can't remember the price, but it looked beautiful, and sparkled even.

I have black and blue S grade which is the smallest. I also have blue T grade but T grade is sharp and is small pebble size.
