What bottom feeder can I safely put in my tank which has 1/4 inch Dempsey fry in it?They are in a tank which I do 50% water changes every other day and tank has gravel also. Was thinking about some very small corydora's.It's a 20 gallon tank.

Mystery snails and small shrimp(cherry, glass, crystal red)...............Anything larger or more "aggressive" will eat quarter inch fry.......Remove the gravel....Gravel is a burden in growout tanks........You want full allowed space and less space for any debris or feces to be trapped in..........

I would take the gravel out but I'm afraid I will lose the biological filter if I do that.It has happened to me before. If I keep an eye on my nitrates do you think I will be ok?

Yeah you will be ok.....Try taking out the gravel, all of it...........Growout tanks are there for fry to grow to a saleable or feedable size.........Any waste caught inside the crevices of sand or gravel will lead to more ammonia build up, which leads to slower growth...........A 20g growout should only be outfitted with a small HOB filter, such as an Aqua Clear 20.....If you have the money, throw in a sponge filter too...........

I took out the gravel.Water parameters improved already.I have a AC70 and a old Penguin 200 filtering the tank. Both intake tubes have sponges on them too. Thanks for the advice.

Oh,forgot.I changed 50%water too.

OK........Sounds good..............Fry with the regimine of 50% water changes every other day will grow quickly.....

The miniature corydoras are excellent little cleanup crews for fry tanks, especially when you're feeding BBS or other small food. You can also use mystery snails, which are also great cleaners.
