So I just picked up a 240g for 150$ yesterday. Well the bottom glass has a large crack down the center from one end to the other end, length wise. I can feel the crack on the underside of the tank but not from the inside. What would be the simplest way to attempt to fix it? Could I just get a piece of glass the size of the bottom and set it inside the tank and silicone it in place?

IMO i would replace the whole bottom part as it could just get bigger from the stress of water pressure.

sounds like you just got yourself one hellova reptile enclosure

Or two great pieces of glass to use on plywood tanks. Replacing the bottom is not going to be cheap.

im not worried about the price i have a hook up. i just need to know what size and tempered or not?

Major manufacturers typically use tempered glass for the bottom of aquariums... It makes sense to me to do what they do... Although since yours is cracked, not shattered, obviously it isn't tempered...
What I would consider is...

Remove the bottom trim... silicone a new piece of glass (I suggest .5" tempered) to the outside of the bottom of the tank that is the full size of the bottom surface of the tank...

I would also silicone the crack closed to prevent water from seeping in and "rotting"...

I would also be sure to support the full bottom of the tank as opposed to just bracing the perimeter like glass tanks usually are.
