Bought a new bichir today :) PICS

I was at petsmart today and I was looking in the tank with "Dinosaur eels". Normally they just have senegals but today I saw one that resembled a poly bichir bichir or a lapradei bichir. It is only like 1 and a half inches so I can't really tell. It look almost like my senegal but has two blue stripes on its side. I bought it for $5. Right now it's in my 20 gal planted. Ive been trying to get a clear closeup shot of it for about a half hour but my damn 20 gal is so cluttered!! heres a pic of my 20 gal...

I know I know... it's a mess lol

What kind of bichir do you think it is?

Looks to be a juvenile polypterus senegal. Based on the pic, as far as i can tell its upper jaw protruding and has the typical juvenile senegal horizontal stripes. Nice pickup!

Too bad its not a lap, at that price it would be a steal!

its about 1 and a half to two inches, do juvi senegals have blue stripes on their whole body though?

Thats a baby Polypterus senegalus yes they have blue horizontal stripes

As far as I know senegals are the only species with this dramatic pattern change all other species to the best of my knowledge have pretty much their adult pattern even as juveniles-Anne

I believe endis go through a pattern change as well.
THis picture is form GEF's website, they are baby endlicheris and they definitely have horizontal stripes

Those baby endi's look cool. Their gills look like horns. Makes them look more dragon like.

its a senegalus, too bad its not a lapredei, it would have been sweet, endlicheri endlicheri looks different when they are young but they are still beautiful!
