I just bought a 100 gallon 48x24x20 acrylic tank. Strangely, the wet dry filter is built into the back of the tank behind the black plastic part. My question is, since there is no drainage pipe issues, since it simply overflows directly into the filter, there will be no issues with having a high GPH pump right?

Also, the return (also built into the back) is fit with a 1/2" hole. What pump can I use for maximum output through a 1/2" return? Also, should I attach some sort of spray bar or something?

Thanks for the help ahead of time!! :)

I guess my main question is, should I get a Mag 9.5 which has 3/4 output, and throttle it to a 1/2"? or Should I get a Mag 7? Would the Mag 9.5 actually do me any more good if I had it throttled to the lower size?

I would get the mag 7 if you are going to have to throttle back the other. Its better for the pump pushing full force because when its throttled back can cause damage to the pump in the long run. Also, make sure it will fit because some of those built in filters have a small area for the pump. I would measure it and then get a pump that will fit and with the size return and gph you are wanting.

That's what I was thinking. I think I'll do a Mag 7. I measured it and I BELIEVE (I hope) it will fit. Is there any pump that people might consider better than the mags? I have heard people tell me they're rather noisy.
