Just bought two small pike cichlids today at my lfs. they couldn't tell me what kind they are, which is kind of a bummer, but they were the only place around here that had pike cichlids at all. they are both about 4 inches, and are a yellow/olive sort of color with a line of dark blotches through the middle (almost look like thick slashes of black). will have pics up soon, but hoping in the meantime someone might be able to tell me what kind they are. the lfs guy says they should get about 16 inches, if that helps at all. they have already eaten a couple of feeders, but the guy also says they're eating flakes and pellets. i've also got blood worms and krill, will they like that stuff too? sorry, i know it's a lot of questions but they are my first so i'd like to do the right thing for them. right now they are in a 55 with plans to upgrade in about a year to a 250 with my other central/south americans. thanks for any help!:headbang2

The shop said they will get to 16" and they didn't even know what they were? SMOOOOOTH! Pikes can range from 4" to 22". They sound like they could be Crenicichla sp. 'venezuela' but you would have to get pictures to confirm. If they are, congrats on gettin one of the largest growin species of pikes! haha! Anywho, more later, i gotta jet! Cheers,
PP

I know, the guy wasn't very helpful, but i had already gone to five other places. thanks for the suggestion, it would be awesome if they got that big! I'll have pics sometime tomorrow probably.

I would never buy a fish from a store that could not ID it for me:grinno:

Eh, as long as I COULD accurately ID it...i would get the fish. Chances are them not knowing what it is they would sell it cheaper than it was really worth...;)

thanks for the help guys. i was told the two i got were eating pellets, but that is bs since they don't even look twice at the ones i tried. they do seem to like the frozen brine shrimp and blood worms. after doing a little research it seems as though they are either sveni or belly crawlers. as soon as my girlfriend brings her camera over here i'll have pics. these guys are awesome buy the way. i through in some little feeder minnows, and watching the way they hunt is crazy! only been a day but i feel an addiction coming on
