about two weeks ago i bought my very first bichir. he/she is a 4-5 inch poly palmus that i bought for $15, is this a good price?

ive been feeding him Hikari sinking carnivore pellets and krill. is this a good diet for him right now? or should add some other things such as blood worms to his diet?

I'm guessing you actually got a senegal, as they are many times labeled as palmus.

a picture would let us know for sure though.

sinking carnivore pellets and krill are fine, although you might want to add a meaty food like frozen shrimp to his diet, i'm sure he'd appreciate it.

im pretty sure hes a poly palmus because the pet store that i got im at realy knows their fish and plus he has some spots along his back and two on the top of his head but i will try to get pictures of him closer up

here are the best pictures that i could take of him/her

so how about the price for him? i got him for $15 and hes about 5 inches

Kinda pricey for a sen that size, but I live in SoCal, and we see these a lot.

The diet you're feeding is great, and I would suggest adding earthworms from a bait shop or walmart if they are available to you, because they really put weight on polys and helps them grow faster ime.

Welcome to the bichir hobby! lol

Sen's are easily trained on pellets, which is cool because it's nice to see your polypterus swimming around the upper levels of the tank at feeding time.

Also, if you have a Petco nearby, they usually carry red wigglers in their refrigerator. A carton of 50 is cheap. They are an earthworm. ;)

yup a senegal. 15 isn't bad. i paid 12 and 15 for two of my senegals.
