A few of the new arrivals include juveniles of the world's largest cichlid species, Boulengerochromis microlepis, commonly known as the 'Emperor cichlid'.
OK, this may be debated in regards to giant growing Cichla. If some of you want to research this and find some largest recorded lengths and weights for the two, please go for it! Be sure and post the results.
At any rate, Emporer cichlids are basically an ecological equivalent of peacock bass. They come from Lake Tanganyika.
Stock fish are 2-2.5" size @ 15.00 each
Here is an immature 10" individual
Also new to my inventory this week are real Cichla temensis, the 'jewel spotted peacock bass'. Stock fish are 6-6.5" size @ 75.00 each
These are captive raised and readily devour floating pellets!
Here is a representative photo of this same race of temensis. The fish featured in photo was about 18"
Lepomis megalotis, the 'long eared sunfish', has long been my favorite sunfish species. This native North American jewel of a sunfish basically fills the same ecological niche in US waters as some Central American 'guapote' species, such as Parachromis loisellei, would occupy in Nicaraguan waters.
These tank raised sunfish can grow to about 8-10" size and are extremely colorful. They accept all prepared foods and would thrive in an unheated aquarium.
In case you are wondering, I have seen them successfully maintained with md-lg growing cichlids as well.
Stock fish are 2.5-3" size @ 20.00 each
Below is a photo in which you can see how colorful this sunfish really is!
