Hey Guys!

I'm am very excited cause I'm planning to get a used 180g Bow Front tank for an upgrade. So i've done a lot of research and have read a lot of people saying that bowfronts have a higher chance of leaking? Is this true? In general what is the average life span of a bow front tank? or the life span of a standard rectangle tank in general?? I want to get this bow front tank but i dont want any leak issues in the future cause it would totally destroy my place if 180g of water escapes into my home.

The tank I'm planning to buy is used i think for maybe 2 years? The owner's fish all died cause I think he didn't know how to take care for his fish. So after cleaning out the tank he left the tank sitting there for a while I'm not sure how long but i can tell there's a good layer of dust on the top of the tank when i saw it.

I just want to know what you all think about bow front tanks or in this case in general.

Thanks!

I don't know how often bow fronts leak, but I can say that the taller the glass is the more chances of leaks. You see a lot of leaky 150(31"T), 210's and 220's. I beleive that the bow front you are looking at is around the 30" mark and that is pretty tall.

But on the other side of the spectrum, I have an 6' 150 that is 29" tall and its never had a problem for YEARS.

Well, I hope I added to your confusion. Hahaha, sorry.

i have a 175g bowfront and havent had a problem yet....the first one I had did get a stress fissure due to moving it = ( Neither tank has showed signes of a leak and I have had them for at least 4 years each

Thank you for post =) My new Tank is coming this thursday I can't wait. =D

I had a 155 bowfront made by aga. It was setup for 8 years no problems. The guy I sold it to about 4 months ago hasn't said anything to me about a leak.

Old thread, but I noticed I didn't mention this elsewhere. The 150 I spoke of decided it had enough use. One day while feeding the tank, I noticed the center brace (perfecto tank, 1 center brace) had cracked and there was about .5"-.625" gap! Seen it in time so no water on the floor. Luckily i had a 180 collecting dust in the garage.
