I was wondering how to keep a bow fin and what other fish I can keep with it. and where at can I find this fish. I'm intrusted in trying to get them to mate. and give the baby's to people as pets. also do you all think it's possibile to do the samething that breeders have done to discus that you could do it to blue gills like make new colors

I don't think Bluegills could be bred with colorations like discus.

Sure you can breed color variations of bluegills. You just have to find bluegills that look "different" and you'll probably have to work at it a lot. Such a large selection of discus variations didn't show up overnight. Do some research into selective breeding of fish for colors (what to look for, how to do it, and genetics). Good luck:)

Mendel's laws of genetics (using roses) would be a good place to start on basic breeding concepts, also any breeders guide for guppies. Expect to spend a long time before getting results as you will need a large population to cull from and they only breed oncea year, figure a dozen 1000g pools, rearing tanks, and at least 10 generations to get appreciable results

i am also on a quest to keep bowfin, in the spring here i have witnessed that the babys sworm around the parent fish, so u just need to find where they are hinding , perhaps around docks or heavy weeds, then just net the babys  , when it comes to keeping stuff with them in a tank, just make sure that what ever is in there is bigger than the bowfin, otherwise it will be eaten
