I was asked to see if there would be any interest if the LFS were to get Bowfins and stonefish in. They let me look at their list and I told them that bowfins might work. I wasnt sure about stonefish and alligator gars. They are trying to get into more monster fish type people. Just need more people to come in with those type of tanks.

It is the petland in hilliard ohio.

How big are the sizes of bowfin?
Are the wildcaught? Have they been de-wormed?

keep in mind that bowfins at very small sizes (<6") die quite easily and for seemingly unexplained reasons ("idiopathic death"). therefore you should warn the LFS of this issue as they may have trouble keeping them alive, AND it would be a shame for them to sell them off to interested buyers only to have them die very soon thereafter (thus not helping the LFS reputation either).

bowfin at about 6" or larger are much more robust--

Awesome thanks for the information. I did not know any of that. I would love to have one though.

yes. try to get them larger than 4-6 inches. they're relatively fragile, and some times they are infested with tapeworms and other internal parasites. However, as they grow out of that phase, they are built like tanks, and are very resilient.

I've talked to a vendor who buys and sell's collected bowfin.
He deworms his, no matter what size they are. From 1" to 24"+. Before he re-sell's them.
They are very proned to having worms.

Like said before, without knowing the background, I would hate to see your lfs get these fish for anticipating customers and have most of them die. Giving your lfs a bad reputation.;)

I'll try and find his info. I remember when I was talking to him on the phone it was 92 degrees outside so I'ts been a while. LOL.

I contacted him about another bowfin he was selling on this site.
He was either out of Mississippi of Missouri.
I'll see what I can dig up.

Wouldn't mind getting one myself.
