Bowfin fry question...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Weekly at least. Same as any other fish.

the more often the better. when growing out small fish i do daily water changes, this allows me to feed lots without having to worry about water quality. remember clean fresh water promotes faster growth

Agreed.Young bowfin are known to be delicate,be careful.

Yes clean water is a must for young bowfin!

Twice a week depending on tank size. Also you will need to treat for internal parasites soon, as baby bowfin are known to carry bugs and die young.

how often should i do water changes?

How did you aquire yours? Sorry if this is a tangent...did you take h2o temp readings? Were they fry, or year old etc?

Thanks, +1 to frequent h2o changes, and good luck with the fish...this is my second year wanting one...last year just got too swamped for the spawn, and this year I havent been checking h2o temps. Suckers are still spawning, so I figure its a little early.

i caught the daddy while fishing and saw the fry swimming ontop of him. and they are fry really small

Really small = sponge filter and a minimum 20%, bi to tri-weekly water changes, and medicate with Maricine (sp?) to rid of parisites-especially wild caught.

Sweet find, people will be knocking on your door wanting one!

Mine now readilly accepts tilapia and jumbo shrimp...Working towards Massivores!
