Bowfin?

has anyone ever kept a Bowfin or Amia calva in aquarium? they look similar to snakeheads but are different species. I am not sure if they are legal to keep or not but they are interesting fish

Apparently people do keep them in aquariums....

I have kept juveniles. They are very interesting fish, and voracious enough for any predator enthusiast. Check with your DNR first, as they may not be legal in your state. There are several threads on them in the Cold Water/ NA Native subforum.

i actually found then on the DEC new york website, but no info on the legality of them.... they are natural to the state as they are found in the grat lakes and their tributaries

they get really big... we caught a 6 lber last year...

what is the recommended aquarium size for such a fish?

do they grow fast up to a point and then slow down?
