Consider extruded aluminum T-slots. In some applications, it's cheaper than using welded steel and then having to paint it. Another benefit is that they bolt together and are lighter so it's easier to move. You can also potentially reuse the parts if you want to redesign the stand, e.g., change out the vertical pieces if you want to make the stand shorter or taller.

I remember seeing pictures of their aluminum stands but can't find them now.

All my future stands are going to be extruded aluminum...no more wood for me.
