Houston texas
i have been looking at box turtles and wanting one since i was like 5, so i have a few questions...
1. could they live outside most of the year in houston area texas?
2. what would be a good begginer sp.?
3. Do any only need greens and veggies?
thanks for the help

Oh, I forgot to mention, they could be aquatic or semi aquatic.

If you are interested in any of the Terrapene carolina subspecies then I would recommend 3-toes as their home range is very close to you. This species shouldn't have any problems surviving your winters and thriving in your summers as long as proper shelter and substrate are provided. Dig through some of my old threads as I have several that are on my Easterns which have very similar care for the most part. You could also keep Terrapene o. ornata year round outdoors as well but I don't have a great deal of experience with this species.

I wish Cuora was still a frequent member to this site as he would give you some great advice on the Asian Box Turtle care.
