Well, given my avatar and the pictures I've posted throughout the months, some of you may know what my pond looks like. Clearly I have a lot of rocks in there.

Today I decided to do a massive cleaning. Took out about 75% of the rocks and opened up all of the the "debris caves" only to learn I need more, or better powerhead placement. Gooood lord. So I sucked up everything I could throughout the course of 20 minutes. 3/8" pvc tubing has massive suction. Then with the combination of my returns and my 2 powerheads, I let the pond cycle for about an hour to find the dead spots. All of the debris collected into 2 neat piles and I sucked it all up. I think I'm going to use fewer in-pond decorations this time. May add another 1300 gph powerhead. Plus, with the addition of my new natives I'm getting on Friday, I need to have plenty of room! ; )

So moral of the story is, really get down and do a thorough cleaning from time to time. It does so much for your water quality and aesthetics, but most importantly, your fish.

Hope all is well with everybody!
