Before I say this, sorry I don't have pics of the eggs.
So here's the quandry:
So I have a midevil male that has a really nice red colour, so I've been trying to breed him to blood parrot females in hopes of getting rose quens, kkp or something like that (you know, random stuff).
So before, I had him in a little pond, then a breeder tank, with a female BP I got from petsmart. They paired off right away, and she laid for him on three seprate occasions. however, the eggs never turned that darker amberish colour that my convict's eggs get when they're fertilized, and on all three seprate occasions, they guarded them for a few days and then ate them when they started to get fungus.
Because of this, I assumed the BP female must not have been fertile so I sold her. I have many BP's from different suppliers (I only got that one fish from petsmart), so I put him with my other females and he chose the biggest best female, and they paired off.
I moved them to a breeding tank and a few days ago (or it might have been yesterday, thats when I noticed them), she laid for him. They were guarding them together, but again, the eggs didn't change colour,
but instead were always white/opaqueish clear, and today they ate them. Now he's guarding the pot and he chased her off.
So my question is this:
Since the BP's were from totally different suppliers, and this is my most fecund female (although this is the first time she's laid with a male in my tank)
what are the chances that the midevil male isn't fertile, or just isn't fertilizing the eggs?
They looked the same both times, so should I try him with a different female, or should I just try her with a different male?
the midevil male I got from petsmart as well when he was a baby, so there is a possibility of hormone injection to get a better colour, I don't know if they do this with their devils' but they obviously do it with their tiger oscars.
So what's the probability that it's the males' fault?
I have a different male midas, and several smaller female BP, so I could do both, but what do you think I should do?
I'm getting kind of frustrated with this.. I really want some midas x bp babies to raise.
also, if anyone has a proven BP female, one that has laid eggs that have hatched and survived, would they consider selling her to me?
I could also trade you for some of my unproven females if you'd like.
I really want some babies
What should I do?
Thanks
