I've often toyed with the notion of doing a DIY tank, and I really like the look of some of the 'braceless' ply (no 4x2 framing) tanks I've seen here. Obviously the taller the tank is the more need for bracing there is, so with 25mm/1" ply sides (and glass front panel) how tall a tank could you build based on an 8x4' footprint? Does using fibreglass instead of liquid rubber-type sealants increase the strength and allow you to go taller, or with the rigid and crack-prone nature of fibreglass is it better to have bracing to prevent the sides from flexing?

I'm asking more out of interest than anything, more than likely will go with all glass for my next build (looking at going 240x120x65cm) but if the price is too much to handle I may look at going down the plywood route...

i think that if you were to add a euro brace to the top of the tank i think you can get away with 24" tall but im no expert.
