Brachychalcinus Orbicularis (Disk Tetra)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you google disk tetra then Myloplus schomburgkii pops up..... I spent 5 minutes writing about them before I realized the scientific name you provided and the one that came up were not the same....
Anyway, it looks like a wonderful fish and I hope you have the best of luck with them. May get them myself one day.
Search the scientific name in the search bar on this site and 2 results pop up. Then google "
Brachychalcinus Orbicularis monsterfishkeepers" And see if anything else comes up. I did and found out that he had been asked about before on here.

I haven't had much luck finding info on them. They are also called "Discus Tetra" so I apologise for the confusion. Apparently they are not at all common, and even less so in the US. Most of the sites I've found that discuss them are from Europe. I think I will email Jeff Rapps to see what thinks.

dan518 dan518 Are you in the US? If so, can you tell me where you saw them offered? I'd love to pick some up. Thanks!

Sadly he is not, as you can see in his profile he is in the uk. That does not however rule out getting them. You could pay him to buy them and then ship them to you. It would be an expensive and annoying time consuming ordeal but you'd get the fish in the end.

I am in the uk, try pestering rapps or cota, I know one of them is importing in from the UK now.

Wow! Thanks Rocksor Rocksor Those must have just been listed. I check his site weekly. I really appreciate the heads up!

I just got off the phone with Jeff Rapps and apparently he's had this group of fish for some time now. After speaking with him, I went ahead and ordered them. He only has this one group of 5 and because of the difficulties and expense of getting fish exported from Suriname, they likely won't be available again in the US anytime soon, so I feel very fortunate to have been able to get them. He will be sending them out next Monday and I'll be sure to post some pics once they are settled in.
