I just got my first brachyplatystoma juruense and put him in my 55 gallon tank with a similar sized rtc. I don't know if they are compatible because my new juruense would stay at the top of the tank but when I put the juruense in my ten gallon tank he sits on the bottom and is doing great. I tried re-introducing him in the big tank but as soon as his whiskers touched the rtc's whiskers he was back at the top until I moved him back to the small tank. I guess my only option is to set up another 55 gallon tank and put the juruense in his own tank. Any ideas?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say not compatible. The RTC will eventually eat him, Probably soon. I tried keeping 2 RTC's together of near equal size and it didn't work. One wanted to eat the other. RTC's eventually eat everyone that is not bigger.

yeah i wouldn't pit these two together abit of an expensive meal for the redtail!!! Are you planning on upgrading to a bigger tank in the near future?

I have the two together. The RTC was 5" and the B. Juruense was 6" The only thing that happend was the rtc tried to eat his little streamers on his tail. Other then that, the one stays in his area on top of the wood and the other stays under the wood.
